The CWGC (Commonwealth War Graves Commission) Chinese cemetery stands near the French village of Noyelles-sur-Mer. It is the final resting place of 842 Chinese labourers employed by the British army in 1916 to carry out hard and dangerous tasks behind the lines. The cemetery was created in 1921 by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) who continue to take care of it today. It is the largest Chinese cemetery in France and Europe.

A story from the First World War to be discovered as a family ... that of a corps of Chinese labourers come to provide logistical assistance to the British army in 1917. Today this cemetery is dedicated to them and has many Chinese characteristics: monumental entrance gate, ideograms, pine trees, ... Ideally suited to introducing youngsters to the many different faces of History!

Close to the Baie de Somme you can visit the largest Chinese cemetery in France! In 1917, Chinese workers, called coolies, came to provide labour and logistical assistance to British troops. Nearly 8,000 Chinese passed through Noyelles-sur-Mer, a support base during the First World War. Today their story is told with 842 white gravestones, carved with Chinese ideograms. Beauty, serenity and respect are the hallmarks of this place of Remembrance!
