Cayeux-sur-Mer

The name of this seaside resort comes from "Cayeux", the picard name of pebble. History of Cayeux is extremely linked to pebble, mineral wealth of this seaside resort of the Bay of Somme.

In the past, use of pebbles was only in the construction but today its chimical and physical properties are extremely valuable in industry.

The wooden path long of 1,24 mile is edged with 400 beach houses. This path is the longest of Europe.
As in the last century, you can follow the beach without walking on shingle.

Harbour of Le Hourdel gathers together the "sauterelliers", boats specialized in fishing the shrimps. You can also get the opportunity to see the biggest reproductive colony of harbour seals in France. This mischievous, shy creature pops its snout out of the water at high tide in the marinas and reclines on the sand at low tide. Watch them from a good distance, with a nature guide and some binoculars so as not to sacre them, because when startled they risk abandoning their young.
