Silex pebbles come from cliffs of Normandy and Somme. They form one of the longest mass of pebbles of Europe which protects the lands won over the sea. These lands are locally called "renclôtures" or "bas-champs" and are situated at the bottom of the ancient cliff. The "Hâble d'Ault", which is a deformation of "havre", was a fishing harbour. Without the sea, the lands become natural meadows and stretches of sweet water. |
