Exhibition "Australian Memories 1916-1918", in patnership with the Australian Embassy in Paris and the Australian Government Department of Veterans' Affairs with assistance from the Australian War Memorial from 1st july to 28th august....
The Somme 1916 museum offer you this exhibition of unique photographs of Australian soldiers during the Great War. These photographs come from the Australian War Memorial (Canberra-Australia), and were unveiled exclusively in 2008 at the Australian Embassy in France.
Using the very moving chronological history of the engagement of the Australian Armed Forces in France, sixty action shots show scenes of the fighting, the desolation of the battlefield and the everyday life experienced by the Diggers, from their arrival in France in 1916 until the day after the Armistice was signed. The exhibition will be enriched with objects, from the Historial’s collection, embued with memories of the Australian presence in France.
This exhibition is held in conjunction with the Australian Government's Anzac Day Dawn Service at Villers Bretonneux and symbolises the cooperation and parternership between the Historial, museum of the Great War and the Department of Veterans' Affairs in Australia who are dedicated to international cooperation in memory of the Australian presence during the First World War.
