Conductor
Perinne, tell us about your job.
This is my 3rd year as a seasonal employee. I don't drive the trains, I'm a conductor (welcoming passengers, checking tickets, safety). At first I applied for a summer job (just 2 months) after gaining my 'BTS Tourisme' diploma, which meant I was qualified to work on the Baie de Somme Railway. I come from the Baie de Somme and I love this region where I grew up. I get to see it nearly every day on board the train.
You're a great fan of old machines?
I was a complete novice about trains in general but I learned about the rolling stock and how it all works "on the job". But it's true that I love old vehicles, especially American cars. Steam locomotives were completely new to me but I liked them straightaway for their history and the way they look. The commentary which I and my colleagues give during a trip has increased my knowledge , particularly of the history of this network.
What does the Baie de Somme Railway have to offer?
A journey back in time! We go back to the late 19th century, to a time when sea bathing was all the rage for fashionable Parisians who came to these northern beaches. You can admire the scenery of the Baie de Somme from a comfortable seat on a charming period train. The route has 4 stations: Le Crotoy, Noyelles-sur-Mer, Saint-Valery-sur-Somme and Cayeux-sur-Mer.
