The Somme River flows into the English Channel forming an estuary of 72 km2
It includes three zones: the low part, discovered during the spring tides, the sandy zone, a real bird's guard and the high part covered with vegetation.
The bay of the Somme is thus a vast natural site, preserved, it is a place of observation privileged for the fauna and the flora, hundreds of species of birds land there during their migrations. The estuary is internationally recognized for its ecological wealth; the northern part is classified as a National Nature Reserve.
The whole bay of the Somme and its surrounding area has been awarded several labels: the RAMSAR world convention on wetlands, member of the club of the most beautiful bays in the world, Grand Site de France and Regional Natural Park.
Do not venture alone in the Bay of the Somme, the tides are dangerous and the species are protected.
