The Montagne de Frise is an exceptional site for its wild atmosphere, the richness of its fauna and flora and the views it offers on the ponds of the Haute Somme.
It is also a place of history and remembrance whose rugged terrain, marked by shell holes and trench networks, bears the scars of the Battle of the Somme, a major stage of the First World War.
The municipality of Frise, owner of the site, and the Conservatoire d?espaces naturels de Picardie, have joined forces to implement a preservation and development project, supported by numerous partners.

Whoever said that the Somme department was flat? Challenge your family to climb to the top of the Montagne de Frise. There are wonderful views of the Somme valley: its lakes, meanders, magical mists. Plus a life-size history lesson for children, in the footsteps of the soldier-writer, Blaise Cendrars, who was stationed here during the Great War.

For your next Sunday outing with friends, why not climb to the top of one of our Picardy 'mountains'? Enjoy some physical exercise in the great outdoors. Plus lots of other interesting things to discover. Your mate who's keen on history will be fascinated by the remains of wartime trenches (the same as those that Blaise Cendrars encountered during the Great War). The friend who loves plant and wildlife will also be delighted: dragonflies, wild orchids, sheep can all be found here.
