The chapel was built in 1886, at the birth of the seaside resort of Onival-les-Bains in the late 19th century, by an enterprising businessman. Considered a "comic opera town" by worldly chroniclers, Saint-Pierre church was too far away, and the idea of building a chapel was born. A private subscription was launched in 1897. The developer Louis Gros offered a plot of land for its construction. Accessible via a staircase that runs the length of the neighborhood, the chapel offers a bird's-eye view of the whole district, as well as an unobstructed view of Onival beach and the bas-champs.
