Château de Vauchelles-les-Domart

Impossible to miss, this is one of the finest early 17th century châteaux in the Somme. Rolling countryside, majestic trees, tranquillity .... such is the setting of the château of Vauchelles-les-Domart. Take time to explore the area around the château, admire the charming church overlooking the village or just enjoy the peaceful setting. The main gates of the château are surmounted by high relief carving of the coats-of-arms of the allied Blottefière and Le Sauzay families, stamped with a Marquis' coronet. Past the gate, an elegant paved courtyard with a formal lawn at its centre. In the background stands the pyramid-shaped, main château building in brick and stone. In season the lovely château is open to the public and its owner can tell you about its history and that of his ancestors, including a tour of the formal French garden behind the château with a wonderful view of the Picardy countryside.
