Somme Tourisme, in collaboration with the group Samarobriva Pipes and Drums, is organising a musical tour of the Somme battlefields on Sunday 11 June from 9.30 am to 5 pm, in order to collect donations for the "Somme Battlefields for Peace" solidarity movement. The concerts will be accompanied by a tour guide, a member of the Somme Battlefields' Partner network.

The Samarobriva Pipes and Drums group will perform several pieces including "The Battle of the Somme", composed on the battlefield by Pipe Major William Lawrie. These concerts will also be an opportunity to commemorate the pipers who died on the battlefields, two of whom have their names inscribed on the Franco-British memorial at Thiepval.

Our objective is twofold," emphasises François Bergez, director of Somme Tourism and Pipers. It is to raise awareness and collect donations for the Somme Battlefields for Peace movement [...] It is also an opportunity to pay tribute to the soldiers who fought in the Somme. It is another way of commemorating and supporting a good cause and thus making our contribution to peace in the world. An action of solidarity and commitment.
