This imposing memorial, preceded by a vast cemetery, pays tribute to the 11,000 Australian soldiers who lost their lives in the Great War. It was at Villers-Bretonneux that they finally halted the German offensive in April 1918. Anzac Day is commemorated here every year on April 25.

The Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux is on a hilltop 15 minutes from Amiens. It bears the names of the 11,000 Australian soldiers who died in France during World War I, their bodies never found or with no known grave. Be sure to go up the steps to the top of the tower. There's a 360° view of the surrounding countryside, of Australian sites on the Western Front and, in clear weather, as far as Amiens cathedral.

Visit Australia in France! The national monument built by Lutyens bears witness to the friendship and camaraderie which reign between our nations. It is here that every 25th April the ANZAC day “dawn ceremony” is held and broadcast on Australian television in remembrance of the Australian and New Zealand brothers-in-arms who fell during the Great War. Be guided by your emotions you as you visit the cemetery before climbing to the top of the tower to look out over the peaceful countryside.
