The New Zealand National Memorial has been erected at the place where the New Zealand Division had set as its final objective during the first Battle of the Somme. A commemoration is held each year in Longueval at the time of Anzac Day. The Caterpillar Valley Cemetery and its 125 New Zealand graves are nearby. The memorial dedicated to the 1205 men of the New Zealand Division who died in the Battles of the Somme in 1916 and whose bodies have never been found is located inside the cemetery.
