This village evokes the first major engagement of Australian troops in France. The name of Pozières has a strong reputation in the Australian memory. The memorials to see in Pozières : - The blockhouse of "Gibraltar". - The monument to the 1st Australian Division commemorates all the battles on the Western Front between 1916 and 1918. - The site of the "Windmill", captured by the Australian troops on August 4th 1916. - The tank monument: a sober stone obelisk decorated with four bronze models of tanks used in the years 1916-1918. - The British cemetery and memorial of Pozières: 2,700 men buried and 14,000 names of soldiers engraved. - The Animal Memorial (since 2017) honoring the thousands of Australian animals who died in the First World War.
