WHERE CAN YOU GO SAILING IN THE SOMME?

Set sail for the Somme – there are several suitable spots along the coast or on inland waters.

Coastal waters: at Fort-Mahon-Plage, Cayeux-sur-Mer and Mers-les-Bains you can try out sailing on the sea, tossed by the waves, the wind in your sails (and hair): fresh air and oxygen guaranteed!

Inland waters: Gamaches in the Bresle valley and Argoeuves, near Amiens, offer a different sailing experience, which can be enjoyed by everyone, whatever their age and ability – ideal for beginners and enjoying yourselves straightaway!

Windsurfing

AT MERS-LES-BAINS

Head for Mers-les-Bains, with its colourful Belle Époque villas and chalk cliffs, to experience (or re-experience) wind surfing. The equipment has changed enormously over the years, making it a sport suitable for wider range of people, although it is still a strenuous activity! On the border between Normandy and Picardy the windsurfing spot at Mers-les-Bains is located at the mouth of the Bresle valley, this other bay whose dips and hollows make its suitable for all sorts of windsurfers!

Trimaran adventure

Head for Fort-Mahon in the Baie d'Authie where you can rendezvous with Arnaud, our suntanned sailing instructor with his sun bleached hair! Trimarans are ideal for learning to sail as they are reassuringly stable. Hoist the sail, let it fill with wind and our boat picks up speed …

Water sport fun

IF THERE IS NO WIND…

Good idea no. 1: Stand-up Paddle

We know it's all the rage but still well worth a try! A board, a paddle, a briefing and off you go for a trip on the water! It's possible at Fort-Mahon, Saint-Valery-sur-Somme and Mers-les-Bains. A recent development means you can also try stand-up paddling on a river, at the Picquigny water sports centre. Paddle boards can also be hired at the Maison Éclusière (lock-keeper's house) at Long.

Good idea no. 2: Sea

Wading Walking through the sea near the shore – a magical and thoroughly invigorating activity. Let the water carry you as you walk along the coastline! It's possible at Le Crotoy with Maui de Ma Baie de Somme, Fort-Mahon, Ault and Cayeux-sur-Mer!

Good idea no. 3: Bodyboarding and surfing

Bodyboarding can be the first step before being able to stand on the board and enjoy the full surfing experience. See you at Mers-les-Bains!

Good idea no. 4: Rafting

Believe it or not white water rafting is possible on the river Somme at Picquigny, the only natural white water spot in northern France!! You can also go for a ride in a canoe, kayak or dugout canoe!
