L'Herbarium of Saint-Valery-sur-Somme

The Herbarium des Remparts of Saint-Valery-sur-Somme is the garden of Nicole Quillot who has a passion for botany.

On the heights on the battlements of Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, this star-shaped garden of 1,700 m2 starts at an old apple tree and is the guardian of a vegetal heritage. It was created in 1996. At the same place, the nuns of the hospital cultivated a garden for centuries.

You will be charmed by the roses arbour.

Old and rare vegetables are placed side by side with aromatic plants. You can discover the "guède" or "waide" in picard. This tincture plant made the fortune of the shopkeepers of Amiens.

You can admire the rockery flowers

When Nicole Quillot discovered it, it only remained a apple tree. She has a passion for plants and she worked a lot to give it a new life. She won her bet : the garden is beautiful !

The garden is the reconstitution of the hospital nuns' gardens on several themes : ornamental plants, historical plants, edible plants, condiments and medicinal plants. You can find there more than 1000 species of plants.

A guided tour will introduce you all the secrets of this garden and its plants.

In 2009, the garden won a special prize of the jury : Mention “Initiative citoyenne” from the Association of Journalists for Gardening and Horticulture.
